AUTOMOTIVE COMPONENTS MANUFACTURING SYSTEM ..........


Goal:	To design and build the second generation of an automated manufacturing system used to produce multi-layered, automotive heat shields.
Challenge:	To substantially improve the consistency of the manufacturing system so as to be well within Six Sigma requirements, and also reduce the total time required for tooling change over.

Solution:	Knowlton Machine Engineering completely re-evaluated the technologies employed on the previous generation machine, and kept only those which had proven to be extraordinarily reliable, and replaced all others with new, more robust systems.
Result:	Production rates for the machine were exceeded by fifty percent over project requirements, and double that of the previous generation machine, and tool change over times were reduced to an average of one third of very best time previous attained.
